Walk Around Bygdøy Oslo

Wondering what to do in Oslo? How about a refreshing walk around Bygdøy Oslo? This beautiful peninsula offers lovely paths and great experiences!
Bygdøy is a small peninsula right here in Oslo. It's filled with fine trails and walking options. We grabbed our backpacks and headed out into the spring sun!
Besides hosting major attractions like the Kon-Tiki Museum, Fram Museum, Viking Ship Museum (temporarily closed), and Norsk Folkemuseum, Bygdøy boasts fantastic walking opportunities. We followed the coastal path and roads all the way around. Need a map? Oslofjorden.com has a good one here.
Explore these highlights on your Bygdøy walk:
- Full Coastal Path: A scenic loop around the peninsula.
- Shorter Walks: Easy options starting from Huk.
- Coffee & Waffles: Relax with treats at Kafé Arkada.
Walk Around Bygdøy
We followed the coastal path for a few kilometers. Then we reached a residential area. We walked past the Folkemuseum towards the Kon-Tiki and Fram museums. We even found a café open for takeaway!
Next, we walked through the residential area towards Huk. It's signposted in places, but a map helps if it's your first time. Huk offers many lovely spots to rest. Enjoy the fantastic views! There's plenty of space and benches.
From Huk, we went up to the parking lot and into Kongeskogen (King's Forest). A wide path leads you to Paradisbukta (Paradise Bay) and Bygdøy Sjøbad (Sea Bath). This path is great for cycling or pushing strollers.
Follow the signs at forks to stay on the loop towards Bygdøy Sjøbad. You'll eventually return to the main road. From there, consider a short detour to Sæterhytten. It's just a five-minute walk uphill near the E18. The view is worth it!

Shorter Walk Options
Expect a little mud in spring, but it wasn't a big problem for us. Bygdøy Oslo is wonderfully flat! It has many trails suitable for all ages. You might know it from sunny summer days. Huk, Paradisbukta, and Bygdøy Sjøbad are popular swimming spots. They are also great destinations for a spring walk.
Is the full loop too long? Start shorter walks elsewhere! For half the distance, take the bus to Huk. Follow the path towards Paradisbukta. Continue along the coast towards Bygdøy Sjøbad and Sæterhytten.
Alternatively, walk from Huk towards the Fram Museum and Viking Ships. Go past Oscarshall Palace. Follow the coastal path back towards the E18. This route involves some walking through residential streets. But you get to see some amazing houses!

Coffee and Waffles
Need a break? Huk is a perfect spot. Sit and enjoy the sea view with a coffee. There are plenty of benches. When it warms up, the lawn is great too! New facilities are being built at Huk for the summer.
Feeling peckish? Kafé Arkada is open near the Norsk Folkemuseum. We bought freshly made waffles there. Delicious with jam, of course! They also offer sandwiches and coffee. It's takeaway only for now.
So, if you're wondering what to do in Oslo, a walk around Bygdøy Oslo is a fantastic choice!
