Kobberhaughytta

Kobberhaughytta

What if we told you that you can have pizza in the middle of Nordmarka on an ordinary Tuesday? It might sound too good to be true, but every Tuesday Kobberhaughytta fires up the pizza oven and serves steaming hot “forest pizza” made with Norwegian and locally sourced ingredients. Surrounded by spruce trees, small lakes, and the colors of the season, you can end your hike with freshly baked pizza and a clear conscience. Even though Kobberhaughytta feels far from the city, it’s actually not that hard to reach. We took the metro to Frognerseteren and started our adventure from there (about 8 km hike), but you can also begin from Sognsvann (about 10 km) or Sørkedalen (about 5 km). From Frognerseteren it’s roughly eight kilometers along a marked trail before the scent of pizza greets you and the cabin appears between the trees. The pizza menu changes with the seasons, featuring red pizzas with Italian tomatoes or white pizzas with Røros sour cream and lingonberries. All toppings are sourced from local producers. We tried the pizza called 'Helge', topped with lingonberry sour cream, mozzarella, elk, blue cheese, and honey. A surprising but seriously good combo! The café (when open) also serves fresh buns, waffles, soup, and toast, along with drinks like coffee, blackcurrant toddy, hot chocolate, wine, and beer. All of which taste even better out in the woods!

Skjennungstua

Skjennungstua

From the metro to treetops and homemade baked goods in under one hour. How does cinnamon buns, hot cocoa and a cozy fireplace in the middle of Nordmarka sound? This is proof that everything tastes better after spending time outdoors in fresh air. It is a popular hiking destination that you can reach both from Sognsvann and Frognerseteren. We took the metro to Frognerseteren and walked about five kilometers along well marked roads and forest trails. It definitely helps the motivation to know that not only beautiful views are waiting, but also something good to eat. Expect open faced rolls, slices of cake, freshly baked waffles and a generous selection of baked goods. The cinnamon buns and school buns come straight from the kitchen, and you choose your own topping such as powdered sugar, coconut or even candy. They also serve hot dishes like chicken soup and pizza. With plenty of seating, a lit fireplace and good food, it is easy to lose track of time. We just made it back down before it got completely dark. A small tip: bring a headlamp, because it is very easy to stay longer than planned.
