Oslo Christmas Market 2026: Which One to Pick and When

We compare six Oslo Christmas markets that give a 2026 date on the organiser's or venue's own page: Jul i Vinterland at Spikersuppa runs from Saturday 7 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, and the other five share nine weekend days from 14 November to 13 December. So your travel dates decide first. On a weekday, Jul i Vinterland is the only one of the six open. On those nine days, choose by what you want to buy and how far you will travel. VisitOSLO's calendar had 35 market listings on 7 November 2026, and 26 of them run for one or two days. We list six more after the day plans.
Your dates decide which markets are open
| You are in Oslo on | Open | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November | Jul i Vinterland, The Grand Christmas Market at Grand Hotel | Grand Hotel closes at 17:00 on Saturday and 16:00 on Sunday |
| Sunday 22 November | Jul i Vinterland, The Grand Christmas Market at Gamle Logen | Gamle Logen is open from 12:00 to 17:00 |
| Saturday 28 November | Jul i Vinterland, Bogstad Gård | Bogstad closes at 16:00 and the Spikersuppa rink opens at 17:00 |
| Sunday 29 November | Jul i Vinterland, Bogstad Gård, Sami market at the Opera | The Opera and Spikersuppa are a 15-minute walk apart |
| Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December | Jul i Vinterland, Norsk Folkemuseum, Oslos Supermarked | Norsk Folkemuseum closes at 16:00, Oslos Supermarked at 18:00 |
| Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December | The same three | Oslos Supermarked changes almost all its stalls |
| Every other day from 7 November to 3 January | Jul i Vinterland | Includes every weekday. Closed on 24 December, with no skating before 28 November |
This table covers the six we compare, so other days can still have a smaller market. Jul i Vinterland is open on 57 of its 58 days, and only 9 of those days have a second market of the six. Bogstad Gård and Norsk Folkemuseum close about 35 to 50 minutes after sunset, which falls at 15:24 on 28 November and 15:11 on 13 December (MET Norway sun data for Oslo S). Of the six, only Jul i Vinterland, Oslos Supermarked and the Sami market list hours past 17:00.
Julemarked is the Norwegian word for Christmas market, and the organisers' pages use it. We read dates, hours and prices on those pages and on VisitOSLO's calendar on 7 November 2026. Bus and metro times come from Entur, the national journey planner, read the same day for these exact dates. Walking minutes come from Mapbox walking routes.
The six markets side by side

Jernbanetorget is the square outside Oslo S. Under-18s enter free at Bogstad Gård, Norsk Folkemuseum and Oslos Supermarked, so adults set the bill: two adults pay NOK 360 at Bogstad Gård, NOK 400 at Norsk Folkemuseum and NOK 98 at Oslos Supermarked, or nothing there from 12:00 to 13:00 or from 17:00 to 18:00. The Grand Christmas Market ticket covers adults and children, and under-3s are free.
With children. Bogstad Gård's ticket includes all its activities. On 5 and 6 December, Førjul på Frogner is a Christmas workshop with tree-circling, not a market: 11:00 to 16:00 at Bymuseet, Halvdan Svartes gate 58, adults NOK 140, under 18 NOK 70, under 3 free, NOK 20 more per ticket at the door, and it can sell out. The ballroom in Frogner hovedgård is reachable by stairs only, and some crafts cost extra.
Jul i Vinterland is the weekday market, and mostly food
Entry is free and most stalls take contactless payment. Of the 42 names on its exhibitor list on 7 November 2026, 29 sell food or sweets and 13 sell gifts or clothes. For gifts, the Grand Christmas Market and the two December markets list more stalls.
Finish work at 17:00 and you have 3 hours from Monday to Thursday and 4 on Friday. Nationaltheatret station is a 5-minute walk away, and the market is flat and wheelchair accessible.
Hours change around Christmas: 21 and 22 December 11:00 to 21:00, 23 December 11:00 to 18:00, closed on 24 December, 25 to 30 December 11:00 to 20:00, 31 December 11:00 to 18:00, 1 and 2 January 12:00 to 20:00, and 3 January 12:00 to 18:00.
- Skating. The rink opens on Saturday 28 November at 17:00 and is free. Rental costs NOK 200, and the ice can close without notice. Our winter guide has the rental hours.
- Ferris wheel. A shared gondola costs NOK 98 per person, and a gondola for up to 5 costs NOK 399. Four shared tickets cost NOK 392, so the NOK 399 gondola only saves money at 5 people.
The Grand Christmas Market is in November, at two venues
The Grand Christmas Market starts at Grand Hotel Oslo, Karl Johans gate 31, on Saturday 14 November from 12:00 to 17:00 and Sunday 15 November from 11:00 to 16:00. Use the entrance on Rozenkrantz gate. The hotel page counts over 70 exhibitors, calls this the sixth year running and offers a cloakroom, so this one is indoors. Its pages still carry older blocks with 17 and 19 November and no year, so go by the dates above.
A second date follows at Gamle Logen, Grev Wedels plass 2, on Sunday 22 November from 12:00 to 17:00. Gamle Logen's calendar lists it too.
Tickets cost NOK 75 including a NOK 6 fee, and they are timed. At Grand Hotel you pick a start from 12:00 to 15:00 on Saturday or from 11:00 to 14:00 on Sunday, and the Saturday 14:00 ticket reads 14:00 to 16:00. Gamle Logen has two windows, 12:00 to 15:00 and 14:00 to 17:00. The Saturday 13:00 start showed few left on 7 November 2026.
Norsk Folkemuseum lists over 100 stalls, and bus 30 beats the ferry
The Christmas Fair puts more than 100 stalls around an open-air museum of historic houses, with folk dancing at 12:30 and 14:00. The museum suggests 2 to 3 hours. The NOK 200 ticket matches its normal adult price. The carriage ride (NOK 50), Santa's workshop, the raffle, food and stall goods cost extra. Three things have no English version: the Christmas talks, the children's theatre and the Advent gathering.
Pick the day by the concerts:
- Saturday 5 December: 12:00 and 14:00, the second a Polish-Norwegian programme.
- Sunday 6 December: 12:00 only.
- Saturday 12 December: 12:00 only.
- Sunday 13 December: 12:00 and 14:00, with a pupils' choir from Farsta singing for Lucia.
Getting there. Bus 30 from Jernbanetorget takes 19 minutes and stops outside the entrance. The museum says extra departures run every five minutes, and Entur shows 09:34, 09:40, 09:45 and 09:49 on Saturday 5 December. The ferry is slower. The museum says it leaves City Hall every 20 minutes and takes 15 minutes. Entur shows one every 40 minutes on all four days (09:50, 10:30, 11:10 and so on), 13 minutes to Dronningen, then a 10-minute walk. After the 16:00 closing, the first ferry you can reach from Dronningen is at 16:45, while bus 30 leaves the museum every 10 minutes (16:04, 16:14). A free shuttle runs from Skøyen station during opening hours. The only parking is 20 accessible spaces.
Access. Paths are wide gravel with some steep parts, the Old Town section is cobbled, and access to the historic houses is limited.
Bogstad Gård is the one weekend you can walk the manor without a guide
On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November the market fills the courtyard, and the main building is open to walk through alone. Normally you can only enter it on a guided tour. The NOK 180 ticket matches the normal adult price. It also covers story time for children from age 3, the barn animals and the horse and cart, which pauses from 13:30 to 14:15. Food, drink and stall goods cost extra. The main building has stairs and no lift. The market page is in Norwegian.
The 16:09 bus matters. Bogstad's market page says bus 41 runs every half hour, and its visit page says every hour. Entur shows both on these two days: from the manor it leaves at 15:39 and 16:09, then 17:09 and 18:09. The market closes at 16:00, so catch the 16:09.
If you miss it, walk 22 minutes to Peder Ankers plass for bus 42, which runs every 15 minutes and takes 28 minutes to Tjuvholmen. Bogstad says its car parks fill quickly.
To arrive at opening, take T-bane line 2 from Jernbanetorget at 10:33, change at Røa to the 10:55 bus 41, and reach the manor at 11:00.
If you miss the weekend, tours of the decorated rooms run from 1 to 23 December, Tuesday to Thursday at 13:00 and on weekends at 13:00 and 14:00, with no market. Our Bogstad guide covers the rest of the estate.
The Sami market at the Opera needs no concert ticket
The Opera hosts a Sami Christmas market (samisk julemarked) in the foyer on Sunday 29 November from 12:00, with Sami handicraft for sale. Its page says the market is open to all, with or without a concert ticket. The 18:30 concert with Kajsa Balto and Frode Fjellheim (NOK 490) showed sold out on 7 November 2026.
VisitOSLO's listing names the Oslo Sámi Association as organiser, lists about 30 sellers and gives free entry from 12:00 to 18:00. The Opera's own page gives no closing time. It places the market before the concert starts and lists Sunday foyer hours as 12:00 to 16:00 or until the performance ends, so 18:00 is the only closing time we found. The market is indoors and a 6-minute walk from Oslo S.
Oslos Supermarked lists Vippa, with new stalls each weekend
Oslos Supermarked runs on Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December. Its market page says Vippa from 12:00 to 18:00, and we go by that. VisitOSLO's 2026 listing also says Vippa, Akershusstranda 25, but gives 11:00 to 16:00. Exhibitor blurbs on the organiser's own list and an undated VisitOSLO article still say SALT, and SALT's website says it is temporarily closed. Check the market page before you travel.
Entry is NOK 49 by Vipps (a Norwegian payment app) or card at the door, and free in the first and last hour. By its 12:00 to 18:00 hours, that means 12:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 18:00.
The organiser counts 80 exhibitors across the two weekends, so about 40 at a time, and promises new ones each weekend. Its list named 39 for the first weekend and 40 for the second on 7 November 2026, and only two names were on both: Vigdis Rosenkilde and Talormade. Weekend 1 includes Fuglen Coffee Roasters and Tiger Keramikk. Weekend 2 includes Kaos Ceramics and the bookshop Samvirkelaget Rosa Bøker. Read the list before you choose a weekend.
Over 15 culture events are planned, all but a few workshops free with entry, and hot food comes from food trucks. The area is wheelchair adapted. Our food hall guide covers Vippa's regular stalls.
Four timed day plans
Check the bus 41 times in Ruter's journey planner on the day.
- Saturday 28 November: Bogstad Gård, then the rink opening. Be at the manor at 11:00, as above. Leave on the 16:09 bus 41, change at Røa to line 2 at 16:21, reach Nationaltheatret at 16:34 and walk 5 minutes to Spikersuppa. That is 21 minutes before the rink opens at 17:00.
- Sunday 29 November: the Opera, then Bogstad Gård. Go to the Sami market first, because only VisitOSLO gives it a closing time. Leave by 13:20, walk 9 minutes to Jernbanetorget, take line 2 at 13:33 and reach Bogstad at 14:00, with 2 hours before it closes. The 16:09 bus 41 gets you back to Jernbanetorget at 16:37, an 11-minute walk from Jul i Vinterland, open until 20:00.
- Saturday 5 or 12 December: three markets. Take bus 30 from Jernbanetorget at 09:40 and reach Norsk Folkemuseum at 09:59. Leave on the 16:14 bus 30 and reach Jernbanetorget at 16:34. Walk 17 minutes to Vippa and enter free at 17:00. At 18:00, walk 20 minutes to Spikersuppa, where Jul i Vinterland stays open until 21:00. On Sunday 6 or 13 December the morning bus leaves at 09:39 and Jul i Vinterland closes at 20:00.
- Thursday 10 December: the Nobel procession, then the stalls. The torchlight procession for the Nobel Peace Prize starts outside the Nobel Peace Center at 16:45 and runs until 18:00. The centre is a 9-minute walk from Jul i Vinterland, open until 20:00 that night. Our Nobel guide has the rest of the day.
Six more markets on VisitOSLO's calendar
All six are free on VisitOSLO's listings, read on 7 November 2026. We did not check them against the organisers' own pages, and Grefsenkollen's own calendar showed no market that day, so confirm before a special trip.
| Market | 2026 dates | Hours | Address |
|---|---|---|---|
| German Christmas Market | Sat 21, Sun 22 November | Sat 11:00 to 16:00, Sun 12:00 to 16:00 | Eilert Sundts gate 37 |
| American Christmas Market | Sat 21, Sun 22 November | Sat 10:00 to 16:00, Sun 12:30 to 16:00 | Fritzners gate 15 |
| Kirkeristen | Fri to Sun, 27 to 29 November, 4 to 6 and 11 to 13 December | Fri and Sat 11:00 to 18:00, Sun 12:00 to 17:00 | Dronningens gate 27 |
| Sentralen | Sat 28, Sun 29 November | 12:00 to 17:00 | Øvre Slottsgate 3 |
| Old Town Christmas Market | Sun 29 November | 12:00 to 16:00 | St. Halvards gate 33 |
| Grefsenkollen | Sun 29 November, 6 and 13 December | Not listed | Grefsenkollveien 100 |
The full calendar has the rest, including Hadeland Glassverk and Bærums Verk outside the city.
No 2026 market date at Mathallen or Vulkan
On 7 November 2026 we found no 2026 Christmas market date on an official page for Mathallen or Vulkan, and VisitOSLO's calendar lists neither. Mathallen's event calendar, which runs to March 2027, lists courses and tastings and no market, and the Vulkan district site shows none. Oslo Julemarked on Youngstorget is unconfirmed for 2026: an oslo.com article from 1 October 2026 says it usually runs daily from 1 to 22 December, but the 2026 events section on Oslo kommune's Youngstorget page named no market on 7 November, VisitOSLO's calendar does not list it, and we found no organiser page. Look for it when you are in the area. Other dated events are in our Oslo events calendar.
Groups and the free map
Of the six markets, only Jul i Vinterland is open for a company or private group in Oslo on a weekday, until 20:00 or 21:00. Our group activities page takes requests for an offer. One option is the cocktail course at Eero, Henrik Ibsens gate 48, a 13-minute walk from Spikersuppa: about 2 hours, in English, age limit 20, at a group price of NOK 590 per person excluding VAT for 10 or more (read on 7 November 2026).
For the rest of the city, get the free Oslo map. There is no signup.
Frequently asked questions
When is the Christmas market in Oslo in 2026?
VisitOSLO's calendar has 35 market listings, and this guide compares six that run on different dates. Sunday 29 November and the weekends of 5 and 6 or 12 and 13 December have three of the six open at once. On Saturday 21 November only Jul i Vinterland of the six is open, but the German and American markets run that day too.
Is the Oslo Christmas market free?
Jul i Vinterland is free, VisitOSLO lists the Sami market at the Opera as free, and Oslos Supermarked is free in its first and last hour. So on 5, 6, 12 or 13 December you can see two markets with no entry fee: Vippa from 17:00, then Jul i Vinterland.
Can you visit two Oslo Christmas markets in one day?
Yes, on any of the nine days when a second of the six is open. The shortest hop is Grand Hotel to Jul i Vinterland on 14 or 15 November, about a 2-minute walk. The longest trip is Bogstad Gård, 27 minutes from Jernbanetorget.
Does the Oslo Pass cover the Norsk Folkemuseum Christmas Fair?
The fair's FAQ lists Oslo Pass holders under discounts and gives no amount, while the pass normally gives free entry to the museum. Ask at the ticket desk. The full adult ticket is NOK 200.
