Adriatic

A little taste of the Balkans right by Sofienberg Park, with prices that are friendly! Try their burek filled with minced meat or feta, the juicy ćevapi with lepinja bread, or beef and chicken skewers from the grill. For the full Balkan experience, finish off with something sweet like baklava or tulumba. The interior also gives off true Balkan vibes, with beautiful details throughout.

Azadi

Azadi

Delicious Kurdish shish kebab in Grønland! We are especially fond of their Mixed Grill with three skewers, or the classic shish kebab with two skewers. Fresh naan is always included! The meat is beautifully marinated and tender, with that real grilled flavor. You usually get a free lentil or chickpea soup as a starter, which is a nice touch. At Azadi you won’t find dressings, but with juicy meat and tangy vegetables you simply don’t need it. The space is large with a casual, laid-back vibe, so come just as you are. They serve only halal meat and no alcohol. It is often packed here, and for good reason. The food is really good and the prices are friendly.

Cultivate Food

Cultivate Food

Cultivate means growth – and here it’s all about cultivating from soil to plate. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and nothing is related to animals, whether in production, ingredients or products like eggs and milk. It’s not just the counter and the dishes that shine green, the entire space is filled with lush green plants. You can get the daily hot dish for just 99 kroner, which is a very good deal!

East Kitchen

East Kitchen

At this successful Danish concept, it’s all about porridge. But if you’re still haunted by watery oatmeal from your childhood, fear not – that’s not what you’ll get here. You can try options like barley risotto served with pickled mushrooms, cheese and thyme, or a red daal with almonds, coriander and yogurt. Pretty tasty! The space is bright and simply decorated, with wooden chairs and a few plants adding a fresh touch.

Hos Peder

Hos Peder

One of our favorites on Løkka! At this neighborhood restaurant, we always have a great time and the conversation flows as naturally as the wine. It’s all about quality ingredients and reasonable prices. The small plates draw inspiration from around the world, featuring everything from mussels with coriander, ginger and chili (perfect for summer) to steak with chimichurri, fish and tartare. You’ll find sparkling, red, white and natural wines at very friendly prices, with a curated selection that’s surprisingly good for the price. The interior showcases wooden furniture, vinyl records and soft lighting.

Jamals Falafel

Jamals Falafel

This spot has earned well-deserved praise for its falafel. Jamal missed authentic Syrian food in Oslo and first started with a food truck. But the food became so popular that he was able to open this small place at the bottom of Løkka. We recommend their 'Falafel Spesial' and the 'Mix Falafel'. You even get a small falafel to snack on while you wait, which is always a nice touch. Seating is limited, so most people enjoy their food outside.

Kinabolle

Kinabolle

Handmade dumplings and chili noodles at Grønland! This is an everyday gem when you’re craving real Chinese comfort food. Behind the pots is Cuiming Pang, who first started with a food stall at Vippa in 2017. It quickly became a hit, and she built on the idea of making food from scratch together with students and people starting a new life in Norway. So it’s as much about belonging, equality, and craftsmanship as it is about food. It’s hard not to love it! On the menu you’ll find handmade dumplings with either pork or vegan filling. A favorite is the 'Sweet Spicy Chicken' with sticky glaze and tangy cabbage, or the broad, house-made noodles with 'Spicy Cumin Lamb'. The plant-based dishes are also top notch, like 'Spicy Cumin Tofu', 'Rich Sweet Potato Noodles', or the vegan version of their hot pot. The place itself is small and unpretentious, with most people grabbing their order to go.

Koie Ramen

Koie Ramen

This ramen spot has long been a favourite in Oslo. Here you will find hand-pulled noodles, steaming bowls, and plenty of happy slurps. We really enjoyed the bestseller 'Tonkotsu', made with tender slices of pork belly, noodles, and a rich broth, topped with corn, egg, spring onion, and bamboo shoots. A true classic! If that doesn’t tempt you, the 'Tantamen' with minced pork and bok choy is both a little spicier and very tasty. You can also get gyoza, fried chicken, and even a refreshing yuzu slush. The atmosphere is simple, friendly, and laid-back. The concept has become so popular that they now have locations here in Torggata, on Løkka, and in Bjørvika.

La Bakeri de Jean

La Bakeri de Jean

This small bakery in Torshov is a bit hidden, both in location and appearance, but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their sourdough baking and their very reasonable prices! They offer more than just sweet pastries – you’ll also find a variety of breads and rolls. We especially loved the olive focaccia, which is also made with sourdough! Behind the counter you’ll find favorites like cinnamon buns, school buns and cardamom buns.

Lahori Dera Tandoori

Lahori Dera Tandoori

Pakistani comfort food at Grønland, all at a friendly price! This is an unpretentious neighborhood spot where the tandoor oven sizzles and the karahi pots bubble. Enjoy chicken classics like tikka masala, tandoori and biryani, or go for a steaming lamb karahi with green chili or Saag Gosht. Prices are around 200 kroner, and naan is included. Nice! The kitchen is halal and no alcohol is served.

Mimmi's Bakings

Mimmi's Bakings

The best scones in town! Tucked away on a quiet side street between lower St. Hanshaugen and Fredensborg, you’ll find a small and charming café that has specialized in just one thing: fresh and fluffy scones. The bakery is run by Mariyah, a warm and welcoming owner who makes everything herself. The selection changes daily, and sometimes you’ll find up to seven different varieties to choose from. Sweet or savory, always baked from scratch. Last time we stopped by, each scone was just 45 NOK, no matter the flavor. The smell alone made it hard to decide, but we ended up trying three. First a savory one with feta and zucchini, then the crowd favorite with blueberry and lemon, and finally the one that stole our hearts: raspberry and white chocolate. Seating is limited, but it’s absolutely worth a stop for a taste of real homemade baking!

Punjab Tandoori

Punjab Tandoori

This local favorite in Grønland has always served up Indian food at a really good price. The daily special is just 105 kroner (99 for takeaway), and classics like Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala are always a hit, just like at most Indian spots in town. People keep coming back here, and it’s all thanks to that unbeatable combo of tasty and affordable.

Rice Bowl

Rice Bowl

A budget-friendly, everyday Thai favorite with all the classic flavors! Portions are generous and the prices are still friendly for being this central. Tip: we often share one dish between two people and just order an extra portion of rice! We come here for staples like Tom Yum and Tom Kha, Pad Thai with king prawns, Pad Krapao with basil and chili, and those warming red or green curries. This is a no-frills Thai living room with bamboo on the walls. They don’t serve alcohol here, but honestly, that’s part of the charm!
