Babbo Øvrefoss
A place that’s been praised, controversial and lively, but thankfully the food is a real highlight. It’s a perfect mix of bakery and trattoria, where the day begins with the scent of fresh sourdough bread and cardamom buns, while the evening fills with wood-fired pizzas, hand-rolled pasta and Mediterranean small plates. The atmosphere is warm and slightly bohemian, with dark walls, vinyl records, plants and historic stucco. A great brunch option, and you should try both the sourdough pancake for breakfast and the pastrami sandwich for lunch. You can also find Babbo in Parkveien and Frogner.

Bakerina
Craving soft, chewy and irresistible cookies? This cozy café in Skillebekk is run by a former ballerina who decided to follow her passion for baking. They specialize in vegan cookies, and when we stopped by, there was a tempting selection of classic cookie flavors on display. We recommend two of the best sellers, the chocolate chip and the double chocolate. You can also grab a matcha-, spice- or biscoff latte. There aren’t a lot of seats, but the atmosphere is warm and full of charm.

Boulangerie M
Baker Manuel is a Frenchman who fulfilled his dream by starting his own bakery. Covered in flour from head to toe, his genuine passion for baking shines through when he reminisces about his days at the prestigious baking school, Compagnon du Devoir du Tour de France. The croissant we tried was large and airy, on par with the best we’ve ever tasted. Have we found Oslo’s best croissant?

Chez Florent
This is the spot for truly delicious French pastries! On the corner of Bøgata in charming Kampen, you’ll find this little French bakery. Their 'Pastel de Nata' has become a real hit with crisp layers, creamy center, and just the right touch of caramel on top. But our top pick here has to be the 'Oslo Roll', a croissant-style swirl filled with pistachio cream. So good! There’s no indoor seating yet, and the outdoor spots are limited, but honestly it’s just as nice to grab a pastry and coffee to enjoy on a bench nearby. The neighborhood is absolutely lovely when the sun is shining!

Daegens bakeri
After a few popular sourdough bun pop-ups, this bakery opened up right by the Akerselva river, tucked away in a cozy little corner of Oslo. The space is quite small and charming, so it’s usually best suited for takeaway, as seating is pretty limited. We definitely recommend the sourdough cardamom bun! You can really taste the sourdough – just the way we think a bake like that should be. The only downside? It’s the first one to sell out!

Daglig Brød
The craze for buns shows no sign of slowing, and you definitely don’t want to miss these cream buns in Gamlebyen! The toppings and unique flavors make this something you probably haven’t tried before. How about ‘Biscoff,’ ‘Blueberry and lemon curd,’ or ‘Banana, caramel and pecan’? Note: Cream buns are only sold on weekends. Here, Daglig Brød and Skrenten Pizza bring together two of the city’s delights with sourdough baking and creative pizza experiences. During the day, fill up on freshly baked bread, buns and pastries from Daglig Brød, while in the afternoon and evening, Skrenten serves up colorful, retro-inspired pizza vibes and an outdoor seating area almost as big as the inside.

Farine
This bakery and café in Kampen still ranks high on our list of cozy spots in the city. The bright yellow building is hard to miss and lights up the whole street. You’ll find more than just baked goods here – the menu also includes pizza, salads, sandwiches and other small warm dishes. This neighborhood bakery offers everything from freshly baked sourdough loaves to french toast. We can confirm that the oat milk latte and the cardamom swirl were a definite hit.

Fjær Konfekt
A small, artsy patisserie on løkka serving up mini designer tarts and individual cakes. The menu features fruity delights like mango-passion and raspberry crème brûlée, alongside coconut, lemon, and chocolate creations. We enjoyed a glossy, bright red strawberry tart, and from the very first bite, it was clear that the cake’s stunning appearance was matched by its delicious flavor! Each cake is carefully crafted in both shape and taste, while the interior offers a muted, elegant atmosphere.

Fooditude
This tiny window café is truly a hidden gem, tucked away in a charming and quiet residential area in Godlia, just a 13 minute metro ride from Jernbanetorget! The menu changes a bit from time to time, but you’ll usually find cinnamon swirls, school buns, pastries with delicious fillings, cookies or brownies. What’s available depends on how late in the day you drop by. There’s no seating, but that’s part of the charm. “The little grey hole in the wall” is only open on weekends, and it’s mainly walkers, often coming from Østensjøvannet just under one kilometer away, who stop by. So this makes for a perfect Saturday or Sunday stroll with a treat along the way!

Grains
French vibes and pastries! The selection of crêpes is extensive, and you can get just about anything on them—from fresh seasonal berries to caramel, jam and cream. The crêpe we were served (after a long wait, mind you) was clearly in high demand, and for good reason! Everything from the perfect thickness to the flavor combinations was spot on. You can also find Grains on Frogner, at Mathallen by Vulkan, or at Frysja.

Håndbakt
A hip, organic and vegan sourdough bakery in Tøyen and at Lindern. In addition to a wide selection of coffee and fresh baked goods, they also serve brunch. We recommend trying the school bun here. It’s both fluffy and moist, topped with a generous layer of sweet icing! Pro tip, grab a coffee and a bun to go and enjoy a stroll through the nearby botanical garden. PS! Their bakery at Lindern is super charming.

Kveitemjøl
Shelf after shelf of freshly baked breads in all kinds of varieties, plus a large glass display packed with sweet and savory treats. School buns generously topped with icing and coconut, big chocolate chip cookies, lemon cruffins and delicious wholesome scones. Mm! This is a Norwegian artisan bakery focused on local and organic ingredients. The space has subtle Nordic touches with dark walls in black and deep blue, and furniture made from dark wood.

La Bakeri de Jean
This small bakery in Torshov is a bit hidden, both in location and appearance, but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their sourdough baking and their very reasonable prices! They offer more than just sweet pastries – you’ll also find a variety of breads and rolls. We especially loved the olive focaccia, which is also made with sourdough! Behind the counter you’ll find favorites like cinnamon buns, school buns and cardamom buns.

Lille Betong
In the mood for a great cup of coffee, some Danish pastries and a sandwich in intimate and urban surroundings? Then this café and wine bar in Oslobukta is just the place. Their school bun has, to say the least, gone viral – so there’s either a (very) long line or it’s sold out. But there’s no doubt it’s absolutely delicious. You’ll find all kinds of coffee here, along with a tasty little selection of baked goods and small dishes.

Lutlaget L/L
French vibes in Bjørvika! By day this place is a bakery, before turning into a restaurant and wine bar in the evening. The space is absolutely stunning with high ceilings, plenty of natural light and eye catching art on the walls. A glass platter with a miniature Eiffel Tower placed at the center of the room proudly sets the tone for the French inspired atmosphere and menu. It’s the perfect spot to impress a date, enjoy a lovely lunch with friends or wind down with a few glasses of wine in the evening.

Mimmi's Bakings
The best scones in town! Tucked away on a quiet side street between lower St. Hanshaugen and Fredensborg, you’ll find a small and charming café that has specialized in just one thing: fresh and fluffy scones. The bakery is run by Mariyah, a warm and welcoming owner who makes everything herself. The selection changes daily, and sometimes you’ll find up to seven different varieties to choose from. Sweet or savory, always baked from scratch. Last time we stopped by, each scone was just 45 NOK, no matter the flavor. The smell alone made it hard to decide, but we ended up trying three. First a savory one with feta and zucchini, then the crowd favorite with blueberry and lemon, and finally the one that stole our hearts: raspberry and white chocolate. Seating is limited, but it’s absolutely worth a stop for a taste of real homemade baking!

Oslo Raw Frogner
This is a true treat of a café and easily one of our vegan favorites in Oslo. Everything on the menu is plant based. They serve tasty lunch and breakfast, but they’re especially known for their amazing raw cakes – which we definitely recommend. You’ll find Oslo Raw at Adamstuen and Frogner. The Frogner location is the larger of the two, beautifully decorated and with a cozy outdoor seating area during summer.

Palazzo Comunale
Right by the river near the popular venue Blå, you’ll find this Sicilian gem. The menu offers a great selection of pizza, pasta and other Italian delights, all inspired by the rich flavors of Sicilian cuisine. When it comes to wine, it’s all about quality over quantity, with a focus on Italian bottles. PS, the dessert Crema di Limone Caramellizate e Sorbetto Limone was so good we actually had to order a second one! From Thursday to Sunday, their Sicilian Panetteria (bakery) is also open. The selection varies, but the buns here definitely stand out in a very delicious way. We recently tried the pistachio version, and it was fantastic!
